3. Char-Broiled Oysters at Drago’s- Visit the place that invented the Char-Broiled Oyster. These little oysters are grilled up drenched with butter and covered in garlic and Parmesan cheese. Drago's Seafood Restaurant can get crowded during peak hours, no reservations are taken, but try having an earlier dinner or later dinner to avoid the crowds. Kid-Friendly Yes! 4. BBQ Shrimp at Mr. B’s Bistro- This upscale casual restaurant has been serving BBQ Shrimp since 1979. This dish is amazing, trust us you won’t want to share this dish with anyone. Quick tip- ask for extra French bread to dip in that butter sauce. Mr. B’s is upscale casual meaning guys no sleeveless shirts. 5. Crawfish at J’s Seafood Dock- The one thing you must try in Louisiana before leaving is crawfish. Tourists and locals like to head over to the French Market to eat at this no-frills seafood counter. The crawfish is steamed with a ton of southern spices so it can be a tad spicy. Order at the counter, then find a seat at a table, they’ll call you when your food is ready. Oh, full bar available. Kid-Friendly? 6. Seafood Gumbo at Gumbo Shop: Open in 1976, the Gumbo Shop is a staple in the French Quarters. Its award-winning gumbo has been winning “Best of New Orleans” for the last 20 years. Order the Seafood Okra Gumbo it is flavorful with a little bit of spice. Reservations are not taken at the Gumbo Shop. Wait times can vary depending on the time and day, could be at least an hour during peak times. A full bar is available. Kid-Friendly? Yes! 7. Shrimp and Grits at Willa Jean- Chef Kelly Field, winner of the Outstanding Pastry Chef the James Beard Award, opened up Willa Jean in 2015. Chef Field takes southern favorites and adds a modern twist. We went for Brunch and tried the Shrimp & Grits which comes with gulf shrimp, etouffee sauce, grits, and poached egg, it was so delicious! 8. Bread Pudding at Luke- A creole-inspired restaurant in the Central Business District. What this place is known for is Happy Hour! Yes, the happy hour is good, $0.75 for oysters but what we loved is the Bread Pudding was so, so good! Brendan’s Bread Pudding is buried with hot buttered rum sauce, sprinkled with candied pecans, and topped with vanilla ice cream. Make reservations, it gets crowded. 9. Fried Crab Fingers at Felix Oyster House- Before this trip, we never heard of Fried Crab Fingers … but when we tried it we were hooked. Felix Oyster House takes their blue crab’s claws and deep fry the claws then serve it up with this amazing remoulade sauce. It’s a great appetizer here to start with before your entrée. There could be a line to this place but it moves fast. Full bar available, good for groups. Kid-Friendly? Yes! Kids Menu, High Chairs available, not really that much stroller space. 10. Beignets at Café Du Monte - Café Du Monte has been serving coffee and beignets since 1892. This open aired restaurant is open 24 hour hours, seven days a week. Yes you can get your beignet fix at 3am in the morning! What is exactly a Beignet? It’s like a donut covered, we mean covered in powdered sugar. During peak hours it might be hard to find a seat but go late night or early morning. A to go window is also available if you don’t have time to sit and eat. Café Du Monte Coffee, Beignet mix, and apparel is available to buy. This place is CASH ONLY. Kid Friendly: Yes! No Kids Menu, High Chairs are available (wipe them down, they get sticky), no stroller space in the inside area but stroller space in the outside seating area.
