1. Buy your tickets online and early: There is a new way of going to Disneyland. You will need to buy a ticket and have a reservation for Disneyland. Tickets are based on a Tier System 1 through 5. Depending on the day you want to go will determine which tier ticket you will need to buy. Tier 1 tickets are the cheapest with the least amount of days available and Tier 5 tickets are the most expensive with all days available. Once your purchase your ticket, you will need to reserve a day to use your Disneyland tickets. You will receive your tickets and a reservation number on the email, you will need both to go to the park. Check the Disneyland Website for Calendars and ticket prices.
2. Book table service dining in advance: If you would like to eat at one of the table service restaurants in Disneyland, California Adventure, or Downtown Disney, book your table in advance. Reservations are open 60 days before the reservation date. We tried booking a month before our reservation date and many of the large party tables were booked solid.
3. Get there Early- It was a process to just get to the entrance of the park. There are two places to park either the Mickey & Friend Lot or the Pixar Lot. Parking is $25per vehicle or $40 for preferred parking. Preferred parking is just parking close to an elevator. If you get there early, no need to pay for preferred parking. Once you are out of the parking lot, they will lead you to temperature checks and the security line to check bags. There are also stroller and wheelchair rentals/ returns at the parking lot. Once you are done with temperature and bag checks, you’ll have a 15-20 minute walk to the park entrances since there were no trams available.
4. Bring a good pair of walking shoes- Can’t stress enough bring a good pair of walking shoes we also brought some comfy flip flops in case we were tired of shoes. The walk from the parking lot to the front of the gate was about half a mile of walking even before you get into the park.
5. Download the App before you go- The Disneyland App was our key to navigating through the park. We used it to look at ride wait times, height restrictions, and health restrictions. The ride wait times are pretty accurate and updated regularly. You will need this app to also join any virtual lines for a couple of the attractions Also you can use this app to order/reserve food, shop for souvenirs, and look at your photos if you purchased the Disney Photo Pass.
6. Join the virtual line- To ride the newest rides at Disneyland, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, you'll have to join the virtual line through the Disneyland App. For Smuggler Run there are two times you can request to join the virtual line, 7:00 am and 12:00 pm. Our advice is you have to reserve your spot right on the dot for this ride because the virtual line is filled within ONE minute. Before you join the line, make sure all your party tickets are loaded into the app, if not you won’t be able to reserve your place in line. For Indiana Jones, depending on the demand of the ride, Disneyland opens up a virtual line because there isn't enough space on that ride to physically distance the line. For Indiana Jones, you'll have to watch the Disneyland app to see when it opens.
7. Bring extra disposable masks and extra hand sanitizer- After June 15th, Disney announced that masks are not required for Vaccinated Park Goers. However, if you choose to wear a mask, bring extra masks, just in case. Your mask could get wet on Splash Mountain or get dirty eating a churro. It’s always good to have extras just in case. Also, bring extra hand sanitizer, yes there is sanitizer and handwashing stations throughout the park but if you want to sanitize during a ride or inline its good just to bring a small bottle. We like the Amazon Mask for Adults and the Mask for Kids.
8. Order your food on the Disney App when you get into the park- Many of the snack carts and restaurants weren’t open, so the best way to check what’s open or not is through the Disney app. We suggest ordering food in the morning for lunch, many of the slots get filled up as soon as the park opens. We tried looking for food around noon and the first time available was at 3pm.
9. Bring lots of snacks for you and the kids- Since many of the snack carts and restaurants weren’t open, we decided to bring snacks for the kids in case they get hungry waiting in line. We threw a few easy snacks in our backpacks like apple sauce packs and breakfast bars so the kids don’t get hangry.
10. Purchase the Disney Photo Pass- The Disney Photo Pass is a good value right now at $19.99 you’ll get to download the picture taken at Disneyland. There are a few photo spots around the park that you can use for the photo pass. Spots can be found using the Disney App.
11. Baby Center located in Main Street Disneyland to change kids- If your baby needs some quiet time or mom needs some quiet time. Spend some time at the baby center where they have diaper changing areas, privacy areas for breastfeeding, and small toilets for the little ones to use.
12. Bring a Charging for cell phone- Using the app and taking 1000 pictures of the kids my phone was already low battery by the afternoon. We brought a charging cell to charge our phone to make sure we don’t miss any of the moments.
13. Where to see Characters? If you are getting to the park early, like when they open at 9am you’ll definitely see Mickey and Friends at the front of the Grand Railroad. Characters don’t roam around the park anymore instead, they are in specific roped areas, so the closest you can get to them is 6 feet. Other times you can see Mickey and Friends at the end of the day in the front of the Grand Railroad. Your favorite princesses hang out by Cinderella’s castle we saw Snow White, Cinderella, and Elsa and Anna. Toontown is another place to see characters we saw Mickey at his house.
14. Don’t buy souvenirs at the end of the day- At the end of the day, there is always a mad rush to the souvenirs shops on Main Street but there are a couple of different ways to do your shopping, through the App or you can buy your souvenirs at the beginning of the day and pick them either at the store at the end of the day or if you are staying on the Disneyland property, they can be delivered to your room.
15. Grab your complimentary Button at guest services and selected stores on Main Street- When you enter Disneyland go to Guest Services and get your complimentary button! We got one for Riley that says “1st time at Disneyland” but you can also get ones that say “Happy Birthday,” “Wedding Anniversary,” or “2021 Graduate.” They’ll even write your name on the button. When the characters saw the button on Riley they actually asked her how was her first time at Disneyland. It was super cute!
