One of the most beautiful sites to see in the spring in San Diego is the Flower Field at Carlsbad Ranch. Every year, for about six to eight weeks, usually from early March through May, 50 acres of the Giant Tecolote Ranunculus are in bloom.

When is the Flower Field Open? The Flower Fields will be open from March 1 through May 9, 2021, 9 am – 6 pm daily
How much and what is included? This year, online reservations are required to enter the flower fields. Limited tickets are available at the flower fields if they aren’t sold out online but they usually sell out on the weekends. Admission to the groups is $20 for Adults, $18 for Seniors 60+, $10 for Children 3-10, and children under 3 are free. Season Passes are available for $42 Adults, Seniors 60+ $38, and $22 for Children 3-10. That admission includes the flower fields, sweet pea maze, Cymbidium Orchid Green House, and the Bird Aviaries. There is also a Wagon Tour that takes you around the flower field for an extra fee, $6 for each adult and $3 for children 3-10. There are special events at the flower field like musical performances and yoga on certain days that are extra fees as well, you can check the 2021 Activity Calendar.
Logistics: Parking is Free, both dirt road and paved road. However, try to request an early morning reservation or later in the day because it does get crowded. The entrance is located next to the Armstrong Garden Store entrance.
COVID: Masks are required for everyone over the age of 2 years old. Social Distancing is encouraged. There are hand washing and sanitizing stations around the flower field. They are also frequently cleaning public surfaces and restrooms.
What to expect & tips?
Buy your tickets a couple of weeks early, the weekends tend to sell out
Try to find an early or later reservation time, peak hours were around 11 am-1 pm on a Sunday that we went.
This year, people are not allowed in the flower fields, there are designated areas where you can fall in line to take pictures. From the entrance, make a left, those flower rows have shorter lines than the mainline.
Bring a jacket, it can get a little chill in the mornings
Food and Drinks are available for purchase and picnic benches are available to go and eat.
Credit Cards are the only accepted payment at the flower fields, no cash accepted
