Perfect Day in Portland

Nature, Food, and Beer what more can you ask for?

Start off your day with a sugary breakfast since Portland is known for its donuts you have to try one or two of their famous donuts spots. Voodoo Donuts is the original place that put Portland on the map with their crazy donuts creations. Lines for the place can be long, but the lines move fast also the Voodoo Donuts in downtown Portland, also this place is open till midnight. Or this place is a little outside of downtown Portland, but Pip's donuts for some cute bite-size donuts and Chai Lattes. Lines are long at this small donut shop because all orders are made to order. What to get? Order a mixed dozen of these donuts and you probably be asking for more when you are done.

After loading up on sugar, head over to Multnomah Waterfall, Portland's #1 tourist destination. Multnomah Waterfall is located about 30 minutes away from downtown Portland. We suggest coming early for some solo shots before the place is packed full of tourist and tour buses. This attraction is free and parking is free too. Budget about 1-2 hours to see the falls. There are two ways to see the falls, first is a 10-minute hike up to the Benson Bridge and the second is a 1.5 mile (1 hour) hike up to the top of the falls. There are restrooms and a restaurant in front of the waterfall and a gift shop if you need some last-minute gifts. Tip when we hiked up to the top of the falls, we felt hot and cold so layer your clothing, and if you can bring a waterproof jacket.

Drive back to downtown portland for some lunch, and eat at one of the many food parks around downtown. These food parks have so much variety you'll find something for everyone from Burgers to Fish and Chips and Jerk Chicken to Grilled Cheese. When we were in portland we tried carts Bing Mi! and Nong’s Khao Man Gai. Bing Mi only services Jing Bing $6 (Chinese Crepe) filled with scrambled eggs, black bean paste, chili sauce, pickled veggies, green onion, try, and cilantro. It was delicious! Next, we had to tried the famous chicken and rice food stall Nong's Khao Man Gai which translates to Nong’s Chicken and Rice. This chicken and rice dish is probably in my top ten chicken and rice dishes we have tasted.

After lunch, you have earned it, head over to the Pearl District and hit up a couple of breweries that are walking distance from each other. A couple we tried were: 10 Barrel Brewery, Rogue, Deschutes Brewery, and Public house. We suggest grabbing a taster and share with friends so you have more room to try so many of the delicious beers from Portland. Also if you get hungry for dinner, the breweries have amazing food!

How to close the night in Portland? Order a whiskey flight at Multnomah Whiskey Library- A whiskey lover’s dream come true in a bar with floor-to-ceiling bottles of whisky. This dream does have a price, a 2-3 hour wait to get in but get there early and put your name down, they’ll call you when your table is ready. When you order your flight, tell the bartender your price range and your flavor profile and they’ll hook you up.
