Logistics: Located in the bustling center of downtown Los Angeles is a restaurant that has become the symbol of DTLA. Open in 2007, Bottega Louie was one of the original restaurants in the revitalization of downtown. Word got out and now it has the most reviews of any restaurant on Yelp. Wait times for Friday/Saturday night dinners can be long during peak hours, 45 minutes to 90 minutes for the dining room. If the wait time is too long, the bar/café has open seating where you can enjoy the full dining room menu or grab something from the counter to eat. Parking can be tricky in downtown street parking is available if you are lucky. If you can’t find parking, valet parking ($10) and a parking garage ($7) across the street are also available.
Ambiance: Bottega Louie is the place where you take your parents for Sunday brunch, where you take a first date for dessert, or where you have family dinner on Saturday night. This restaurant is massive, floor to ceiling windows, white walls, beautiful ambiance, and décor. It can be a bit noisy because of the high ceilings and the acoustics of an old building but we considered the noise just lively. Walk to the hostess stand put your name down and they’ll come and get you when your table is ready. While you wait you can either head over to the bar or walk over and stare at the wall of macaroons. Once your table is ready, the hardest part comes next… what to order?
Food: Bottega Louie serves Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, and Saturday/Sunday Brunch is served in the main dining room. The café serves up the full dining room menu or can order food from the counter (sandwiches, desserts). We have been here both Brunch and Dinner and we usually order family style, meaning share everything. Here are a few dishes we have tried:
Portobello Mushroom Fries- We always start off with these fries as an appetizer. The fries are deep-fried then covered in parmesan and parsley and served with this incredible garlic aioli sauce, you’ll want to ask for more sauce.
Calabrese Pizza- One of my favorite pizzas in DTLA. This pizza is topped with Salami, fennel, chili, mozzarella, pecorino romano, and drizzled with honey. We thought honey on a pizza was a strange combination but the salty-sweet really works and now it's one of our favorite pizzas.
Carbonara- Creamy, rich, and so tasty! That’s why we suggested sharing, even with sharing we had leftovers. The carbonara is made with Bucatini pasta, peas, crispy pancetta, chives, parmigiana reggiano and a poached egg.
Save room for dessert (sorry no pictures)… If you can’t finish dessert there ask for dessert to go! They’ll box it up for you. Everyone comes to Bottega for the Macaroons but their other desserts are just as amazing. The Tiramisu, Raspberry Napoleon and the beignets are all solid choices, yes a little pricy but the portion sizes are enough for 2 people,
Prices: Brunch prices $16-30, Desserts $14, Dinner Prices range from $14 for small plates and around $20-35 for larger plates.
Overall: Come here for the yummy food and desserts.
