Logistics: Hidden in Hollywood is a beautiful Italian courtyard that serves the best pizza in Los Angeles. L’Antica Pizzeria Da Michele opened its first US location in Hollywood in spring 2019. The original location of this restaurant opened in southern Italy in 1870 and was featured in the book then movie “Eat Pray Love”. L’Antica Pizzeria Da Michele has perfected in two things the Marinara and Margherita pizza which is cooked in their signature stone oven. L’Antica Pizzeria da Michele also serves pasta, appetizers, and of course dessert. Reservations are strongly encouraged and can be done online through Open Table or by calling the restaurant directly. Parking can be found on the street or valet for $10. Takeout, curbside pickup, and delivery are also available through one of their partners (Grubhub, Doordash).
Ambiance: L’Antica Pizzeria Da Michele feels like home, walking in you are greeted by the hostess and they will guide you to an actual living room for you to wait for your table. Then when your table is ready you are either seated in the beautiful front or back patio. We suggest requesting the back patio so you can watch your pizza being cooked in the stone oven. The restaurant is perfect for Friday date night but also feels like a place where I can bring my toddler for an early dinner.
Food: L’Antica Pizzeria Da Michele serves up Brunch, Lunch, and Dinner. Brunch is served on the weekends. We came during Brunch and they serve brunch favorites along with the lunch/dinner menu. We ordered family-style, meaning we shared everything.
Margherita Pizza- The main star of the restaurants, is this pizza. They have perfected this simple pizza made with tomatoes, fio di latte (mozzarella), pecorino, and basil and it is simply amazing. The dough is thin and chewy, a little hard to eat because it is so floppy, the sauce is sweet and so flavorful, and lastly, the cheese is so delicious and fresh, again this pizza is perfect.
Grilled Octopus Appetizer- Spanish Octopus grilled with a side of Potato and arugula salad. The Spanish Octopus was not chewy or tough, it was actually soft and very flavorful, my 1 and a half year old just kept asking for more!
Save room for dessert! Tortino Al Ciccolato (Chocolate lava cake)- Our favorite chocolate lava cake the chocolate is not too sweet. The lava cake is drizzled with white chocolate and comes with a side of vanilla gelato ice cream.
Prices: Pizza range from $20-$50 ($50 is a Truffle pizza), Appetizers $18-26, $Entrée 16-55. Beer $9-10, Cocktails $17. We suggest ordering an appetizer, pizza, and an entrée.
Overall: Definitely a place to eat
