Logistics: A restaurant with the most beautiful views of Hawaii has to be The Signature Prime Steak & Seafood. This place is located at the Ala Moana Hotel, one of the oldest hotels in Waikiki. When you get to the Ala Moana Hotel, take the special elevator, with the red carpet, to the 36th floor. You’ll be greeted by a live piano player playing all of your favorite hits and the floor-to-ceiling windows with 360 views of Waikiki Beach. Reservations are highly recommended for this place, on a Tuesday night, it was packed. Reservation can be made on their website or the OpenTable App/Website. If you don’t have reservations, try to snag a seat at the bar where they serve the full menu. Parking is available on Mahu Kona Street or there is self-parking at the hotel at no cost with validation. Hotel Valet is also available for a price. This place is kid-friendly, and highchairs are available.
Ambiance: This restaurant is beautiful, it is the perfect spot for a special occasion or even happy hour. The dress code is Hawaiian formal, the website said no flip flops but we saw some people wearing them at the bar. The restaurant can be a bit noisy with the hustle and bustle of a busy steakhouse but it wasn’t too overwhelming that we couldn’t hear each other talk. The live piano was also a nice touch for dinner. When we reserved, we said it was for a birthday and they provided us with a table overlooking the ocean. The staff always made you feel special when we mentioned it was a birthday celebration. The waiters wished the hubby happy birthday and they sent out a dessert with a candle at the end of dinner.
Food: The Signature Prime serves dinner and happy hour. They have an extensive dinner menu from their 42-48 wet-aged USDA prime steaks to their seafood selection of oysters, crab legs, and more. All entrees are al a carte so for two people we shared a steak and ordered three side dishes. They also have an exclusive tasting menu for people who want a little of everything. Their happy hour is nightly from 4:30 to 6:30 and it's half off appetizers and drinks. Here are a few dishes we tried for dinner. MENU
Ahi Katsu- We started off with this dish because of recommendations from the waiter. Ahi is coated in panko bread crumbs and then lightly seared. The ahi was melt-in-your-mouth delicious. It’s definitely a must-order when you are here.
Tomahawk Steak Wagyu- We actually splurged on this and couldn’t finish it we had to bring it back to the hotel. The Tomahawk was so marbly and so delicious. This wasn’t on the menu it was actually a special of the night. If it’s offered definitely get this, and it should be enough for 2 or 3 people depending on how hungry you are.
Truffled Potatoes Gratin with Lobster Gravy- This dish was rich and so delicious we only finished one of the two gratins. Not that much truffle flavor but still delicious.
Asparagus Carbonara- it is grilled asparagus covered in carbonara sauce and then topped with an over-easy egg. Another rich dish but we figure it was a birthday celebration so might as well go all out.
Rustic Truffled Mashed Potatoes- Our favorite side of the night the mashed potatoes were so creamy and you can really taste the truffle flavor in this dish
Lilikoi Creme Brulee was so delicious, light, and airy, the perfect end to a filling yet delicious dinner. The Creme Brulee is infused with Hawaiian Lilikoi and served with a crispy caramelized top.
Price: Appetizers $19-22, Entree $45-110, Sides $10-27, Desserts $9-15, Drinks $8-20
Overall: It is the perfect place to start our Hawaiian vacation and to celebrate the husband’s birthday for date night. The service was terrific, the food was delicious, and we could not get enough of that ocean view!
