Six Filipino Restaurants to Try in Los Angeles

It's Filipino History Month, there are so many good Filipino restaurants in Los Angeles here are six to try...

Salo-Salo Grill- Located 20 miles north of Los Angeles is one of our favorite spots Salo- Salo Grill which serves up traditional Filipino food. This sit-down restaurant is always busy with families getting together for The Platter. The Platter is a family-style plate filled with all your Filipino favorites, you can choose the Breakfast Platter, Seafood Kamayan Platter, Meat Lovers Kamayan Platter, Breakfast Platter, or you can build your own platter. The Platter serves 4-6 people but it is more like six people with the portion of food they give you, Salo Salo is also known for selling All Day Breakfast platter with all the Filipino favorites like Beef Tapa (Marinated Sweet Beef), Crispy Bangus (Fried Milkfish), Longanisa (Pork Sauage) and it comes with Garlic Rice. Other must-try items are Crispy Pata (Fried Pork Knuckle), Pork Sisig (Sizzling Pork), and Lechon Kawaili (Fried Pork). Quick Tips: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner are served. No Reservations, first come first serve; private parking lot. Outdoor seating available. Busy times are usually during lunch. Kid-Friendly? Ord and Broadway- Chinatown lunch spot that serves Fusion Filipino Food. Chef Getty Lustre puts a twist on his traditional Filipino family recipes. Their menu is filled with Rice Bowls, Burritos, Wings, and Sandwiches all with a Filipino flare. Must-Try- For Breakfast, you must get the Ube Pancakes. Ube is a purple starchy yam, that is usually on the sweeter side. Lechon Kawali which is a fried pork belly that comes with eggplant, pickled radish, and rice. Another dish to try is lumpia with XO Sauce it's so good. What is Lumpia? It's a Filipino Eggroll mixed with meat and veggies. Quick Tip: Street Parking Only, order at the counter and find a seat, not great for groups, tables fit four people at most. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner are served. Closed Monday and Tuesday. Sari Sari Store – From the same team that opened up Republique comes Sari-Sari store at the Historic Grand Central Market in Downtown Los Angeles. Sari-Sari Store is a casual restaurant that serves up rice bowls and desserts. Must try: Can’t go wrong with Sisig Fried Rice- Crispy Pork Head, Spicy Peppers, Ginger and a fried egg or Lechon Bowl – Pork Belly, Pickled Veggies, and fried egg over rice. Save room for their dessert Halo-Halo and Buko (Coconut) Pie. Quick tip: Parking Garage and street parking available (No Validation Available). Silog- Opened in 2016, in a small strip mall in Torrance, is Silog, a Filipino Fusion Restaurant. Silog offers traditional appetizer and their main entree- SILOG is a suffix referring to the fried garlic rice (SInangag) and the egg (itLOG). Choice of meat with garlic rice and soft boiled egg. Must Try- Tapa Silog Thin cut ribeye steak marinated in garlic and lime and the Sisig Silog Braised pork belly and shoulder topped with chicharon and garlic crème aioli. Quick Tips: Private Parking Lot, Kid Friendly, Small Restaurant with a couple of tables. Also, Kamayan Feast (Eat with your hands) are also available, which is a feast with tons of rice, meats, noodles, all topped on a giant banana leaf. Address: 1555 Sepulveda Blvd, Torrance, CA 90501


Baboy- Small hole and in the wall with a few tables, family owned and run. Second generation cook that is turning Filipino classics into Fusion. The chef's claim to fame is the Lumpia Burger which he served up at the LA Smorgasbord but there are so many other dishes that you have to try! Must try Sisig Tots with a Fried Egg, Lumpia Burger, and their verision of a California Burrito which comes with bisket (marinated beef), garlic rice, and toppings. Quick tips: Best for take out, since they only have a couple of tables. Private parking lot available. When you are looking for the place you’ll have to find the sign “Bahay Kainan.” BaBoys - Carson serves Breakfast & Lunch, maybe dinner if you can get there on time (they close at 5). Oi Asian Fusion- A fast casual restaurant that serves up Asian inspired rice bowls. With locations all around Southern California, it has become one of the fastest growing chains. There food is amazing, not only do they have rice bowls, they expanded to burgers, fries, tacos, and yummy dessert. Must Try- Pork Belly & Umami Gravy Braised pork belly, umami gravy, seaweed,scallions, pickled radish, rice; Fried Chicken Adobo- Boneless chicken thigh, signature adobo sauce,soft boiled egg,scallion and rice.; Ube Upside Down Pie- Purple yam custard topped with bruleed graham cracker, Greek yogurt. Quick Tips: Fast Casual, Order at the counter and they'll call you when your order is ready.
